Boxing Up Barbie

Once my party hosting was complete for August I vowed I would start on our bedroom remodel. I got the brainstorm to remove the wallpaper while taking a shower in the morning. Now we're committed! Yikes ...
I thought I had better start boxing up the Barbies to protect them from the upcoming project. I need to protect my collection from possible paint splatters or disaster.
I know one little girl who will be disappointed when the Barbies are no longer on display in Grandma's bedroom. Hopefully, we can unbox them soon!
P.S. Notice ... I am storing them in pink storage boxes : )

Went with the Wind

O.K. ... so ...
I hardly EVER buy myself a Barbie. I usually receive them as gifts. BUT I stopped by Tuesday Morning after work one day and saw this 50th Anniversary Bob Mackie in-the-box Barbie and I had to add her to my collection. Why?!?!?!?!
  • I am reading Gone with the Wind right now
  • I love a bargain (it was a great price!)
  • I loved this Carol Burnett variety show episode
  • I am a Barbie collector
  • I survived my first week of school with students!
However, she may be the last in my collection for a while due to lack of display space. I think we need to create a Barbie "museum" someplace in our home. She's crowding us out : )
She is cute though ... don't you agree!

Happy 50th Birthday, Barbie

Check out what the grandkids surprised me with Friday ... a new Barbie celebrating her 5oth birthday. I can still remember the day I got my first Barbie ... the box she came in ... the plastic smell ... the black-striped swimsuit and plastic high heels. I picked out one with dark hair and my dear friend, Paula had one with blonde hair. Oh, the hours we spent playing with those dolls.
Of course, after a half-century Barbie still looks fabulous ... ready to capture the hearts of a new generation of little girls. However, the "original" owners have aged and are now eligible to be card-carrying AARP members!

Tickled Pink

After 15 years of collecting holiday Barbie Ornaments I finally found the perfect tree for displaying them while shopping on Black Friday. Yeah to Michael's for the great deal on a pink flocked 36 inch tree ... every little girl's dream.
Knowing how much Calleigh loves dolls and Barbie I wanted to have a fun display she could enjoy and remember for years to come. The ornaments are high impact plastic so she can touch and admire each one.
I know how you all can't wait to see this : ) ... tours available by request ... hahaha. Now you can feel sorry for Walt who has to deal with a pink Christmas tree on display in our home : ) But not to worry ... we do have a traditional tree set up too!

"OPEN" ...

Gulp ... last week when Calleigh was visiting she noticed my boxed Ballet Star Barbie on the shelf ... which, by the way, was a gift from her Mommy a few years ago.
Calleigh has started noticing that Grandma has a lot of Barbies around the house. As a collector, I believe I have more than 100 Barbies ... still in the original box ... in mint condition. Many are from dear friends and family members. Some mark an occasion or event in my life.
Well, back to the story ... On this particular day Calleigh points to the box and says, "BARBIE!!" followed by "OPEN" Oh, dear ... this could get complicated.
Psst -- After a lifetime with all guys ... I'm lovin' it : )
